Nursing Shortage in Maryland Hospitals
Continues (August 1, 2006)
Health Care Replaces Technology as Hottest Employment
Field
A new report by Mitchell/Martin Inc./Essential Staffing
Associates (MMI/ESA) says the health care field is hotter today than ever
before. Executives at MMI/ESA attribute this boom to a growing population with
people living longer, advances in medicine, aging baby boomers, people having
limited access to managed care, and a surge in the demand for preventive
medicine. Hospitals across the country also have reported a significant
increase in the volume of emergency department visits. With such a high demand
for health care, MMI/ESA says qualified health care candidates are highly
sought-after workers. MMI/ESA is a recruiting firm that specializes in
permanent health care staffing. For more information: http://www.hcmmi.com/.
Nursing Ranks Seventh in Hot Careers Registered
Nursing is one of the "hottest" careers of the future, according to the Bureau
of Labor Statistics, placing seventh in "largest projected growth." According
to The Nursing Management Salary Survey 2001, a yearly survey conducted by
Nursing Management and published by Springhouse Corporation, the average
starting salaries for nurses ranged from $16 to $17.70 per hour. Moreover,
nurses gain the satisfaction of knowing that, at the end of the day, they have
made a difference in someone's life.
