Shadow Experience Template
Target
Audience: Teachers, guidance counselors, students, service
learning providers (SLPs)
Goal: To offer a one-on-one experience
for teachers, guidance counselors, students, and service learning providers
(SLPs), with licensed nurses, in a variety of settings across the state, to
provide a basic understanding of the roles and responsibilities nurses have, as
well as the impact of nurse staffing on health care services. During each of
the site visits, participants will receive first-hand information on the jobs
that nurses perform and the types of patients treated.
Dates:
Partner with a local health care facility and set dates in
advance so the experience can be built into the curriculum.
Planning
Process: Identify a point person at the local health care
facility to facilitate the experience.
Overview of
Experience:
- Planning is essential to a great experience. Participants
and preceptors should meet for an orientation and introduction prior to the
experience. The facility should arrange for the process to take place.
- The experience should include up to three separate
experiences selected by the individual and lasting approximately one hour each.
At least two experiences should be with nurses in direct patient care.
- Each experience should be a one-on-one with a registered
nurse.
